For Patrick Milligan, a passion for education runs in the family. His parents are both retired schoolteachers in their hometown of Delta Junction, Alaska. While his upbringing may have influenced his future career, Patrick didn’t jump straight into higher ed.

After completing his associate degree, Patrick knew he wanted to switch paths and enlist in the Army. He went on to have a diverse military career serving our country for almost 11 years on active duty. This included two tours in Europe, a deployment to Iraq, a year in Bosnia as a Scout Platoon leader, and Company Command at Fort Bragg.

Patrick believes that education creates opportunities. As an enlisted soldier he used his military tuition assistance to continue his education which helped him become a Non-Commissioned Officer, which in turn provided the opportunity to earn an ROTC scholarship and become a Commissioned Army Officer. After his military career, he went back to complete his MBA and master’s in finance as a working adult. “My military career laid the foundation for future success and set the table for what I do today.”

Patrick joined Wiley in January 2021. As a product of military education, he felt inspired to give back to the community and help military students pursue their own education goals. In his role, he collaborates with our marketing, enrollment, retention, and business development teams to identify new opportunities for partner schools to enhance their military strategy, increase enrollment, and implement best practices in military student support.

His military outreach team’s unique expertise helps in connecting with both prospective students and military supportive organizations, since they share similar life and military experiences. “Trust and credibility are critical when working with the military and education communities.”  So that’s why his team are all well-educated, retired senior military leaders.

When he isn’t working, Patrick enjoys spending time with his wife and their dogs, traveling, fishing, and golfing. He currently serves on the board of the American Freedom Foundation and volunteers for a local dog rescue foundation.
