To Bill Simantirakis, a career isn’t defined by a job title. It is defined by the impact you have on others and the world.

Bill’s passion for helping others, paired with his interest in higher ed, led him to join Wiley in 2009. Starting off in Enrollment as a program manager, Bill spent most of his time guiding learners to find their path and follow their dreams.

Bill received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Information Systems and his MBA from DePaul University, but he never stopped learning. After seven years in his program manager role, he decided to return to his tech roots and accept a position as learning technologist. With the support of the Wiley Tuition Scholarship and Wiley Tuition Discount programs, Bill went on to earn his Graduate Certificate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from The Chicago School, as well as an MS in Instructional Design and Technology from Concordia University Chicago.

This helped Bill to transition into his current role as learning designer. “My work helps people get to where they want to be, but instead of doing it one student at a time right now, I get to do it one class at a time.”

Bill collaborates with faculty and subject matter experts to create online classes. His day to day involves anything from managing and training to support and design. “The courses I design directly shape the minds of this generation and the next. I use my knowledge of adult learning theory and technology to architect learning experiences that make the world a better place.”

Bill wakes up every morning excited to make classes better and more enjoyable for learners. “Ultimately, it’s the lessons that we craft and the way that we craft them that help students to develop real life skills.” While working on master’s-level courses, Bill is conscious of putting together assignments that students can leverage in their professional lives right away. He finds it fun and rewarding to find creative new ways to equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.

Outside of Wiley, Bill likes to spend time with his family. He often enjoys a nice walk in the park with his wife and dog.
