Instructional Design

Students are prioritizing online learning more than ever before. Whether you’re looking to optimize your existing online courses or create brand new ones, our flexible partnership options help you design programs that give students the accessible online learning experiences they need.

Create Transformative Learning Experiences

We know what works in online learning. And it’s not dependent upon a long-term contract. Whether you need project-based or ongoing support, we’ll help you design meaningful, engaging courses for your faculty and students.

With over two decades of experience developing outcome-focused online education, you’ll collaborate with our instructional designers on the Academic Services team to create:

  • Distinctive learning experiences

Your new programs will align with your unique mission, values, and approach to pedagogy. And with our flexible support, you’ll build programs that serve the specific needs of your learners, faculty, and university.

  • Outcome- and future-focused programs

Adult learners need programs with the right combination of rigor and flexibility. To strike that balance, we’ll work to understand their backgrounds and how they plan to use their degree. We’ll also continue monitoring student performance to refine courses and optimize accessibility and learning outcomes.

  • Highly engaging content that sparks interest

Students have more learning choices than ever before, so we’ll design your programs to stand out. How? By building an inclusive classroom environment with unique coursework. Your students will be inspired to think critically, learn deeply, and make meaningful connections with faculty and peers.

Inspire Engagement Through Active Learning

What’s the key to our program design? Active learning. Our instructional designers will infuse this into your courses using our Community of Inquiry pedagogical framework. This highly researched, data-driven model empowers students through three essential learning pillars:

  • Social presence: Student-to-student interaction

Successful courses inspire teamwork, discourse, and camaraderie. Social presence means we empower learners to work together using peer-to-peer learning. Learners tie their coursework to their personal and professional lives with a social presence, making distance learning and relationship building with faculty and classmates more meaningful.

  • Cognitive presence: Student-to-content interaction

We help students apply critical thinking and problem solving to thrive in rigorous courses. But our teaching methods are flexible too. This allows instructors to personalize their lessons by selecting the textbooks and learning materials that best connect to the curriculum.

  • Teaching presence: Student-to-teacher interaction

Instructor-to-student engagement can mean the difference between a rewarding learning experience and an ineffective one. That’s why we first seek teacher input when creating courses. That way, instructors feel connected to the material they teach.

We also design courses to stimulate learner engagement by giving them the chance to provide feedback on tasks and assignments. Feedback helps ensure that lessons are interactive and assessments are constructive on both sides.

Holistic program development, better learning outcomes

What does learner success look like to you? With our holistic approach to program development, we’ll ensure that your learning experiences reflect your vision. Led by our strategic program planning process, we’ll work together to map your goals and design courses to achieve them. We’ll make sure to focus on the following as we develop your high-impact courses:

  • Consistent, high-quality instruction

We use our own tried and tested pedagogy best practices for consistent, program-wide quality. We can also help you measure performance and further develop your faculty’s online teaching skills.

  • Progressive, accessible programs

From the first day of class to graduation, we’ll work together to build programs with seamless course progression. We use student feedback to boost performance and improve course accessibility.

  • Strategically selected content and technology

We thoughtfully structure content around the needs of today’s learners by identifying media options that enhance the learning experience. Our Academic Services team can either work within your preferred learning management system (LMS) or offer our own LMS called “Engage.” What makes Engage a great platform? It provides agile access to courses and has a built-in feature that gathers learner feedback in real-time.
